California Law Extends Anti-Harassment Training Requirements


California SB 1343 became effective on January 1, 2019

As of January 1, 2019, California SB 1343 expanded the anti-harassment training requirements.  The law extends coverage to employers with more than five employees and requires employers to provide anti-harassment training to all employees every two years.  The previous law required mandatory training for just supervisors. 

By January 1, 2020, an employer with five or more employees must provide at least two hours of classroom or other interactive training regarding sexual harassment to all supervisory employees and at least one hour of similar training to all nonsupervisory employees within six months of assuming their position.

Beginning January 1, 2020, for seasonal and temporary employees (hired to work for less than six months) an employer must provide training within 30 calendar days after the hire date or within 100 hour worked, whichever occurs first.  Training for migrant or seasonal agricultural workers, shall be the same as for nonsupervisory employees.
