EEOC Releases FY 2019 Enforcement and Litigation Data


Total EEOC charge receipts drop but sexual harassment recoveries increase

During FY 2019 EEOC took in 72,675 charges of workplace discrimination.   The posted enforcement and litigation statistics includes a historical overview of charge receipts since FY 2009 and a detailed breakdown of charges by statute and by state. 

The FY 2019 data reveal that the most frequently filed charge is retaliation, followed by disability, race, and sex.  Additionally, EEOC took in 12,739 charges alleging sex-based harassment including 7,514 charges alleging sexual harassment.  This was an increase from the 7,609 sexual harassment charges received in FY 2018. The number of males filing sexual harassment charges also increased from 15.9% to 16.8%.  The amount recovered from sexual harassment claims was $68.2 million, up from $56.6 million from the prior fiscal year.
