President Trump Nominates One Democrat and Two Republicans to Fill EEOC Commissioner Seats


EEOC currently down to three Commissioners but will be down to two when Acting Chair Lipnic leaves in July

President Trump’s nominees for the vacant EEOC Commissioner seats include:

Sonderling was nominated last year but was not confirmed.  He is currently deputy administrator of the Wage and Hour Division of the DOL.  He graduated from Nova Southeastern University School of Law. 

Lucas is an associate attorney at Gibson Dunn, the law firm where Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia was a partner.  She is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practices Group and its Litigation Department.   She graduated magna cum laude in 2011 from the University of Virginia School Of Law, where she was an Articles Editor on the Virginia Law Review. 

Samuels is the Executive Director of the Williams Institute of the UCLA School of Law.  The Williams Institute is “dedicated to conducting rigorous, independent research on sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy.”  Prior to her current position, Samuels was the Director of the Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Health & Human Services.  Also, during the Obama Administration, she served as Acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the DOJ.  She graduated from Columbia University Law School where she was a Note Editor for the Columbia Law Review and was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
