Caviness Beef Packers pays $600,000 to resolve a hiring discrimination claim


Caviness Beef Packers Ltd, t/a Palo Duro Meat Processing, Inc. in Amarillo, TX and Caviness Packing Co. in Hereford, TX has agreed to pay $600,000 to 746 applicants.  During a routine OFCCP compliance review of both plants, the OFCCP found that the company violated the E.O. 11246 by failing to consider applicants without regard to their race, sex, color, religion or national orgin.  The OFCCP alleged that the company discriminated against the 746 applicants on the basis of race and gender by rejecting them for positions at the two meat processing facilities.

Under the conciliation agreement, Caviness Beef Packers will pay $600,000 to the class members, including back wages and interest, and extend at least 81 offers of employment as position become available.  The company also agreed to revise its selection process for production positions.
